Career Bridge for Workforce Preparation
Adult Education offers free Career Bridge programs to prepare students for advancement into entry level jobs, certificate training and Associates Degree programs. Career Bridge courses can be taken alone or in combination with other Adult Education classes, such as GED or ESL. Through Career Bridge, students prepare for entry into a particular career sector by learning the vocabulary and basic concepts necessary for success in that field. In addition, we offer two survey Career Bridge courses, Career Assessment and Exploration, and Workforce Readiness that provide career planning skills and basic job readiness. Career Bridge programs currently available are:
- Healthcare Bridge – Learn the vocabulary and basic concepts necessary to succeed in the City Colleges of Chicago health related programs such as CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), Phlebotomy Technician, Pharmacy Technician, EKG Technician, or Medical Billing and Coding. Healthcare Bridge courses are currently offered at: Truman College (773) 907-4350, Wright College (773) 481-8823, Olive-Harvey College (773) 291-6700 (NEW in Spring 2007).
- Transportation Bridge – Learn the vocabulary and basic concepts necessary to succeed in the Transportation, Warehousing and Logistics (TWL) career sector. After completing this course, students receive a certificate of completion and are able to transition into a variety of transportation sector programs at the City Colleges. Transportation Bridge courses are currently offered at: Olive-Harvey College (773) 291-6700.
- Automotive Bridge – Learn the vocabulary and basic concepts necessary to succeed in Auto Tech 101, a credit course that is the first step to a certificate in Automotive Technology. This course will also prepare you for the college entrance exam. Automotive Bridge is the first step to many exciting careers in the automotive sector. - Career Bridge – Learn the vocabulary and basic concepts necessary to succeed in career programs offered at Arturo Velasquez West Side Technical Institute of Richard J. Daley College. For more information, contact: Arturo Velasquez West Side Technical Institute (773) 843-4500.
- Career Prep – Master foundational skills for employment readiness. Reading, writing and math skills are taught by exploring yourself and possible careers. The focus is on acquiring problem solving, test taking, self-management and computer skills that prepare you to enter a career program. Classes are offered at Dawson Technical Institute, Olive-Harvey College and West Side Learning Center.
