Metra Transit Benefit Program

This program allows you to have pre-tax income deducted from your paycheck each month for the purchase of a RTA Transit Check.

The RTA Transit Check is a voucher that allows employees to use pre-tax dollars for commuting expenses for transportation anywhere on the RTA/METRA system and the South Shore Railroad.  RTA Transit Checks may be purchased in any denomination from $10 to $115.  You determine the precise value based on your commuting needs.

All payroll deductions are pre-tax and the amount elected will be deducted from the 1st payroll check of the month.  Your RTA Transit Check will be delivered to your College HR Administrator and distributed to you for the purchase of your next month’s pass.  District Office employees will be notified via email at distribution time.

Note:  The maximum amount allowed by the IRS for pre-tax commuting expenses is $115 per month.  If you also participate in the CTA Chicago Card Plus Program, your combined METRA & CTA total cannot exceed $115 monthly.
