Tuition Free ESL

The English as a Second Language courses are designed to teach English language and civics skills to foreign born non-native English speakers. English as a Second Language ( ESL) courses range from providing basic language and life skills for complete beginners to helping advanced students refine their English in preparation for higher education, vocational training, or a career. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar are included at all levels of instruction. Supplemental ESL classes are available in areas such as conversation, writing, and career development.

• Through ESL courses students are better prepared to live, work and study in this country. Courses are offered at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels and civics.

• Citizenship courses are offered to prepare students for the U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization Examination.

• English as a Second Language courses are for Illinois residents for whom English is not their native language.  International students and visitors are not eligible for ESL or other adult education courses.

English as a Second Language (ESL) placement testing and registration are done by appointment. The placement test for morning, afternoon, evening, Saturday and off-campus classes is given on several dates during each sixteen-week semester (twelve weeks in the summer semester).  Placement testing appointments are made on a first come, first served basis.  Call the Daley Adult Education Office for more information at (773) 838-7803.
