President - Arshele Stevens

President Stevens-Official Head Shot.jpgArshele Stevens brings nearly 20 years of leadership experience to Kennedy-King College, where she has served as Interim President since July 2013. Since 2004, she has led effective teams at both the City Colleges of Chicago and Chicago Public Schools to provide students with the technological supports they need to be successful in college and beyond. She is sought after for her ability to inspire people to innovate while achieving strategic  goals, and is committed to ensuring Kennedy-King becomes the  best-in-class community college its students deserve.

Prior to becoming Kennedy-King College’s president, Stevens served as the Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer at City Colleges, where she managed a $50 million budget and oversaw the provision of technology for City Colleges’ seven campuses and six satellite sites that together serve more than 115,000 students and approximately 5,500 faculty and staff. During her time at City Colleges, she oversaw a reduction in vendor expenses, expanded computer access to students across the system and developed new services such as cloud computing to reduce infrastructure cost.

She previously served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Chicago Public Schools, where she managed the upgrade of CPS’ administration system for the 21st century through cost-effective technologies that support improved teaching, learning and operations. As CPS’ CIO, she leveraged a $129 million budget to create a more collaborative educational environment and diminish barriers between CPS families and computer access. She previously worked as an Assistant Vice President at Wachovia Bank in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Stevens holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. She has served as a board member of the Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago and Mayor Richard M. Daley’s Technology Advisory Council.
