The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the City Colleges of Chicago District No. 508. The Board is comprised of seven voting members appointed for three-year terms by the Mayor of Chicago with the approval of the City Council of Chicago. The Board includes one student trustee elected annually from one of the City Colleges on a rotating basis.
The City Colleges of Chicago currently operates seven accredited colleges located throughout Chicago. The Board of Trustees has jurisdiction over all matters brought before the Board.

Officers & Members of the Board of Trustees
The Chairman of the Board conducts the Board’s public and executive session meetings. The Vice-Chairman serves in this capacity when the Chairman is unavailable. The Board Secretary (who is a Trustee) maintains the minutes and resolutions of the Board. The Assistant Board Secretary, a full-time employee of the City Colleges of Chicago, assists the Board. The Trustees appoint the Chancellor of the District and all full-time employees of the District upon recommendation of the Chancellor.

Regular Board & Committee Meetings
A regular meeting of the Board is scheduled on the first Thursday of each month at a time and location designated by the Chairman of the Board. All meetings of the Board and its Committees are held in accordance with provisions of the Illinois Open Meetings Act and other applicable laws concerning the conduct of meetings. In accordance with the Rules for the Management and Government of the City Colleges of Chicago, the Board has four standing Committees which meet on a monthly basis: Executive Committee, Committee on Academic and Student Services, Finance & Administrative Services, and the Committee on Human Resources. There is also an ad hoc committee on Audit Services created by the Chairman of the Board. The ad hoc committee meets on an as-needed basis.
Board Rules
During the first Board meeting on or after July 1 of each calendar year, the Board adopts its "Rules for the Management and Government of the City Colleges of Chicago". These Rules contain all Board-adopted policies such as: Student Academic Policies, Student Tuition and Fee Policies, Student Government Association Policies, Compliance Procedures relating to various government regulations, Investment Policies, Human Resource Policies, Employee & Board Ethics Policies, Purchasing and MBE/WBE Policy and District Operations Policies.
