KKC Wellness Center Practicum Details
The Kennedy-King College Wellness Center Team welcomes Master’s graduate students in clinical/counseling psychology seeking a Therapy practicum placement.
The ideal applicant: The ideal applicant is naturally empathic, flexible, and has a strong desire to help underserved populations. We value kindness, initiative, creativity, and teamwork as well as the ability to work independently. In addition to the more traditional concerns of college students, our clients cope with all of the issues one may find in any urban mental health center, including physical and sexual trauma, legal issues, and lack of basic resources.
Dr. Dionne R. Gavin, EdD, LCPC is a Psychotherapist who has completed research focusing on the factors contributing to the success of college graduates raised in African American single mother households and the implications to counselors. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Clark Atlanta University and her Master’s and Doctoral degrees at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University in Chicago, IL. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois, with 20 years of clinical work experience in both the public and private sector, 17 years of supervisory experience, along with approximately 11 years working in higher education. Dr. Gavin is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Illinois Counseling Association. She is also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
