Blackboard Course Site Archiving
This policy, which manages older CDL, on-campus, and administrative Blackboard course sites is in place to:
- continuously improve Bb server performance
- lessen Bb costs
- ensure Academic Policies are followed
Course Site Archive Schedule
- At the beginning of the next term, previous term will be made unavailable (to students, not instructors).
- Previous three terms are made unavailable, but remain on the Blackboard Web Server. Instructors can see unavailable course sites, students cannot.
- At the beginning of the next term (Jan 29 2010), 3rd oldest term (and older) will be disabled, archived, and removed from the Blackboard Web Server.
- All archived courses will be housed on CCC Network Servers, instructors should contact Blackboard Campus Administrator for access.
Student Incompletes
- Students with an Incomplete can get access to the course site to complete their course.
- Instructor should request course site access for student via their Blackboard Campus Administrator.
- Only the requested student and instructor will have access to the previous term course site. The course site will remain unavailable to other students enrolled in the course.
Administrative Course Sites (sites created for anything other than a Peoplesoft class)
- Administrative courses will be made unavailable at the end of term.
- New course sites will be created each term and users will need to be reenrolled and not copied over from a past course.
- Instructors may be contacted if a course exceeds in course content or in number of users to ensure an optimal online experience for all parties involved in the course.
Why Do We Archive Courses and/or Make Them Unavailable?
- Blackboard charges CCC for the number of "active users" we have on the server. "Active users" are enrolled in an available course site. We make past course sites unavailable to reduce the number of "active users."
- We archive courses and store them on the CCC Network Drives for up to seven years. This makes more space available for course sites on the Blackboard Web Server and saves costs on Blackboard hard drive space.
Is This Policy New?
No. Prior to 2005 we archived courses and stored them on the CCC Network Servers on the same schedule. Before 2005 each Blackboard Administrator had to archive their own college's course sites. Now archiving is done via a batch process, allowing Blackboard Administrators to focus on assisting instructors and students.
Are There Exceptions To This Policy?
Yes. If you have a request or question, please contact your Blackboard Campus Administrator.
