If you have a passion for the French language and are interested in becoming an educator, the French Education pathway may be right for you. In addition to taking classes in French literature, language, and culture, you will also study topics such as teaching methodology and educational psychology. French teachers generally work with students in the middle grades and high school. An aspiring French teacher who plans to work in public Illinois schools must earn a bachelor’s degree with a major in the Teaching of French from an accredited program and obtain a Professional Educator License with a Secondary Education endorsement in French from the Illinois State Board of Education. The pathway below is ideal for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution to become teachers, or for students interested in working as Teacher Assistants.
