Tests Administered at Truman College
Placement test accommodations are available for students with documented disabilities. All accommodations must be approved by the Access Center before tests are taken.
Truman College does not require an appointment to be made for placement testing, we are on a walk-in basis. Check our hours of operation for more information.
- CCC Placement Test - All new students are required to complete placement tests in the areas of English and math before registering for classes unless waivers are applicable. If you believe you qualify for a waiver/exception, please contact Truman Advising. Students will need their CCC ID and student portal credentials to take the placement exams.
- RTW English Placement Test
- It may only be taken once per year and scores are good for two years.

- Please allow approximately 3 hours to take the English placement exam.
- The test is graded by the Truman English faculty and scores are generally available within approximately 3-5 business days.
- ALEKS Math Placement Test
- It may be taken up to five times per year and scores are good for one year.
- The ALEKS math placement exam consists of approximately 30 questions.
- Students are not allowed to use calculators however an onscreen calculator will appear for some questions for students to use.
- The ALEKS math placement exam is scored instantly once completed.
- Language Placement Test – for students taking their first world language course at City Colleges
- College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Exams
- CLEP Foreign Language Exam - students may earn credit by successfully completing a CLEP proficiency exam (Spanish and French languages)
- CLEP General Exam - students may earn credit by successfully completing proficiency exams; 33 exams in 5 subject areas are offered
- American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) test – students may earn credit by successfully completing an ACTFL proficiency exam (Italian, Arabic, Polish, Chinese, and Japanese languages)
- Proctored testing for Online Learning courses
- Proctored exams in collaboration with other colleges/universities ($30 fee)
- General Educational Development (GED) examination
- High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)
- U.S. & Illinois State Constitution Modules– part of the GED examination; U.S. citizenship
- Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE)- Contact our Adult Education Department
Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
Placement test accommodations are available for students with documented disabilities. All accommodations must be approved by the Access Center before tests are taken.
Test Accommodations for students with disabilities are given in a manner consistent with the applicable requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. This includes offering and administering the test in a time, place, and manner that is accessible, including the provision of appropriate modifications and auxiliary aids and services. Examples of appropriate modifications and auxiliary aids and services include a change in the length of time of examination for individuals with learning disabilities and Braille or large print examinations and answer sheets or qualified readers for individuals with visual impairments.
Testing Center Policies
- The Truman Testing Center requires cell phones not to be present during all in-progress tests.
- Only approved calculators may be used during the test.
- Test takers are expected to adhere to the CCC Student Policy while taking CCC Placement Tests both on-campus and at home. Please see section 8.17 of the CCC Policy Manual for details about CCC’s Academic Integrity and Dishonesty policies.
