Fall 2017 COURSES IN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT & BUILDING ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES                
        

The Environmental Technology Programs at Wright College
grants degrees and certificates to students pursuing careers in the energy
efficiency, sustainability, emergency management, and environmental, health
& safety sectors, with an emphasis on anticipating future directions in
these fields. The progressive, hands-on credit curricula are accredited by the
Illinois Community College Board (accreditation for the Urban Agroecology AAS
and Certificate is pending as of today’s date), and other training within the
Programs result in various trade and/or agency certifications and acknowledgements:     

Students interested in Emergency
Management
can pursue one or more Basic Certificate programs: Homeland
Security, Incident Command, and Emergency Preparedness. A new track, in
coordination with the Transportation Security Administration was introduced in
Fall 2013, and is now open to at-large students as well. Upon completion of the
basic certificate requirements students may go on to A.A.S. Degree completion.
In addition to advanced concepts of emergency management, classes in the Degree
program are designed to provide basic general educational skills needed by
Emergency Managers today.

  • ENVR TC 205 – Introduction
    to Terrorism 
  • ENVR TC 215 – Introduction
    to Weapons of Mass Destruction 
  • ENVR TC 226 Disaster Psychology

Wright offers a Certificate in Building Energy Technologies, a program designed
to incorporate sustainability and energy efficiency concepts into building
construction, retrofitting, and operations, but applies to a much broader range
of career paths. It includes topics such as building commissioning, LEED,
Building Operator Certification, and renewable energy installations.

  • ENVR TC 104 - Energy Systems Fundamentals
  • ENVR TC 114 - Renewable Energy Systems

In addition to campus classes with garden and green roof
components, under a special agreement with the University of Illinois
Urbana/Champaign, Wright College also offers online curricula in Agroecology, courses focused
on various science topics in agriculture and sustainability, to address the
emerging employment field in urban agriculture. The weekly online classes
conducted are instructed by an Agriculture School (College of ACES) Professor
from UIUC. This is an outstanding opportunity for any students hoping to
transfer to UIUC during their academic career

The Environmental Tech Program also presents continuing  ed. training and workshops covering a variety of subject matter, such as residential weatherization, OSHA certification, bee-keeping, renewable  energy, and other timely topics.

On October 9th, 2012, the Illinois Green Governments Coordinating Council recognized Wright College for achieving the bronze standard of recognition level of sustainability goals in higher education as established by the Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact.     ​
