​Students who wish to pursue the shortest route to a degree, should apply for the Associate in General Studies Degree.  In the Associate in General Studies degree, the Construction/Carpentry Transfer Elective Credits will fulfill the elective requirements in the degree, leaving only the 20 credits in the General Education Core to be completed in order to meet the degree requirements. Residency Requirement for Program Completion: Prior to requirement term Spring 2016, all students must complete a minimum of fifteen (15) credit hours of residency (credit hours earned in CCC classes).  Effective requirement term Fall 2016, all students must complete a minimum of twenty-five percent (25%) of the credit hours required for a degree in residency (credit hours earned in CCC classes).

This credit will be accepted at any of the City Colleges of Chicago toward any degree, but the Associate in General Studies Degree is the degree where all of the credits will count toward graduation requirements.  If a student wishes to pursue any other degree at City Colleges, such as the Associate in Arts, the Associate in Science, an Associate in Applied Science (there are over 100 different AAS programs),or the Associate in Fine Arts, for instance, then the credit will count differently toward the degree.  Though the forty credits will always be posted to the transcript, the number that will fulfill elective requirements will depend on the number of elective credits allowed in the degree.  Every degree program has a different number of elective credits.
