Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

Case Worker, Career Planning and Placement

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federal program which provides training for people who are out of work, who need training to change career paths or whose skills need improving in order to obtain a new job.

Under WIOA, there is an increased emphasis on training provider accountability and performance as well as a national focus on clients attending training programs associated with occupations in high demand industries. The training should also lead to the achievement of industry recognized credentials.

WIOA funding covers up to $8,000 in tuition plus the cost of books, depending on what program a student chooses to pursue. WIOA funding, however, may not cover all costs associated with the program. The student may be responsible for some out-of-pocket expenses.

Eligibility for WIOA funds does not determine eligibility for individual programs. Each program has its own entrance requirements. Check with your anticipated 4-year institution for applicability of transferable credits.
