Sexual Assault and Harassment Support
If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted:
- Go to a safe place
- If you want to report the crime, call 911 immediately or contact your college’s Security
- Go to your nearest hospital emergency room as soon as possible. Even if you believe you have not been injured you should be assessed for the risk of STDs and pregnancy.
- Preserve evidence by avoiding showering, bathing, douching, washing your hands, or brushing your teeth. Save your clothing.
- Get support from someone you trust who can be with you and give you support
Even if some time has passed since you were assaulted, seek support. You are not alone!
CCC Wellness Center counselors offer confidential support
While most CCC staff are required under Title IX to report instances of sexual assault, Wellness Center staff are specifically designated as confidential sources of support. Wellness Center counselors provide you a safe place to talk and can help you to:
- Get medical care
- Decide whether to report to CCC Security or the police
- Understand your rights as a CCC student
- Decide whether to report to a CCC official
- Find off-campus resources, including free legal help, advocacy, confidential counseling, and support groups (Chicago Area Sexual Assault Resources)
- Understand the short-term and long-term impacts of sexual assault/harassment on you as a person and as a student
- Obtain support from other people at your college
- Build upon your strengths and get support over time as you heal and regain your sense of safety
