Sex Offender Registration Policy

Under the Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act, convicted sex offenders enrolled or employed at institutions of higher education, whether on a full- or part-time basis, must register with their employer or college.

The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act (CSCPA), a federal law that was enacted on October 28, 2000, provides for the tracking of convicted, registered sex offenders enrolled as students at institutions of higher education or working or volunteering on campus.

The law requires institutions of higher education to issue a statement advising the campus community where law enforcement agency information provided by the State concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained.  It also requires sex offenders already required to register in a State to provide notice, as required, under State Law, of each institution of high education in that State at which a person is employed, carries on a vocation, volunteer services or is a student.

Faculty, staff and students seeking information concerning registered sex offenders, can go online to obtain a listing of these individuals that are required to register with the State of Illinois. The Illinois State Police Department provides an online listing of registered sex offenders at http://isp.state.il.us/sor.

Any new employees and students with a conviction for a sexual offense who begin employment or enroll after January 1, 2012 must register with the relevant Safety and Security Department within three days.

Failure to comply is a Class 3 felony that also can result in denial of enrollment or employment at City Colleges of Chicago.
