Mission Statement

The faculty and staff of the Malcolm X College Surgical Technology Program believe our mission is to improve patient care by providing surgery departments throughout the country with highly educated and well trained Surgical Technologists. In order to do that, we dedicate ourselves to our students and our clinical sites. We constantly assess outcomes to make sure our affiliates and students receive all the care and attention required for a successful outcome. 

Program Goals

It is the goal of this program to prepare our students for the physical, emotional and intellectual demands of the operating room. 

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation from the Associates of Applied Sciences in Surgical Technology program the graduate will:  Translate medical terminology, discuss pathology and its relationship to surgical intervention and distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate surgical techniques and interventions.  Construct and maintain the surgical field and assist the surgeon with continuity, aseptic technique and accuracy.  Adhere to hospital and departmental policy and standards of conduct, while maintaining a professional working relationship with all perioperative and institutional team members.
