Legacy of awards

The Malcolm Xpress has a long history of award-winning service to the Malcolm X College community. For 18 consecutive years the paper’s staff–individually and collectively–has won awards from the Illinois Community College Journalism Association (ICCJA).

Staff composition

Students who participate on the paper are often not journalism majors–its staff represents many of the health science programs, liberal arts and business majors who are committed to informing and entertaining through their writing. Students who are eligible for the federal college work study program can compete for a limited number of work study slots on the publication. They can also earn college credit for work on the paper by enrolling in English 150. Applications are accepted year-round.

Publication schedule

The paper publishes eight times an academic year during the fall and spring semesters: the summer term is reserved for training new staff.
