Department of Social Sciences Mission Statement and Student Learning Outcomes:
The department will predispose students to learn, describe, analyze, and predict human behavior from various social science perspectives: anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology. Aligned with Daley College core competencies the Social Science department helps develop our student success through the following student learning outcomes:
SLO1 – Effectively communicate ideas and arguments based on current research in the disciplines.
SLO2 – Use disciplinary modes of analysis to demonstrate critical, analytical or creative thinking.
SLO3 – Identify diversity in global and cultural settings, as appropriate to disciplinary methods and questions.
SLO4 – Define and apply qualitative or quantitative research techniques within various disciplines.
SLO5 – Effectively demonstrate the use of technology through the use of software such as Microsoft Tools and the learning management system Brightspace.
SLO6 – Apply disciplinary ideas and methods to ethical questions.
