HW Wellness Center Practicum Details
The Harold Washington College Wellness Center Team welcomes Master’s graduate students in clinical counseling psychology or social work seeking a Therapy practicum placement as well as Doctoral graduate students seeking a Diagnostic or Advanced practicum placement.
Practicum Details:
The Wellness Center at Harold Washington College offers a robust and dynamic training experience for clinical trainees. Harold Washington College, a designated Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution is a diverse, all-encompassing academic setting serving both traditional and non-traditional students. Based on individual academic program requirements, trainees will spend on average 20-25 hours working and providing direct clinical services to our myriads of clients. At the Harold Washington College Wellness Center, enrolled students are eligible for 8 ongoing sessions throughout a semester. Trainees can anticipate to collaborate with clients in these 8 sessions on varied presenting problems including, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, family concerns, trauma, identity exploration/development, stress, time management and more. Outside of direct client engagement, trainees have an opportunity to engage with the college community through wellness related workshops and presentations, as well as outreach. The Harold Washington Clinical team (which consists of Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Certified Art Therapist) work collaboratively and intently with trainees in individual supervision, group supervision and through didactic training to ensure thorough and proper clinical training to endorse clinical preparedness.

Supervision Philosophy of the Site:
With 6 full-time licensed clinicians on staff, supervision is central to our training experience at the Harold Washington College Wellness Center. Each clinical trainee will receive 1 hour of weekly individual supervision with their primary supervisor. Additionally, clinical trainees can anticipate 2 hours of Group Supervision weekly with our licensed full-time staff. To promote autonomy of learning, trainees will have time to consult with their peers for one hour of peer consultation a week. In-session consultation, open-door policy, and ongoing access to licensed clinicians is a practice of the Wellness Center for continued supervision opportunities
