Leaves of Absence
City Colleges of Chicago offers several leaves of absence in the instance that you may need time away from work. Eligibility and approval can vary depending on the type of leave requested and your status as a union or non-bargained for employee. The types of leave available to full-time staff include:
- Paid Bereavement Leave
- Personal Leave of Absence
- Family and Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA)
- Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA) Leave
- Medical Leave (Local 1708 ONLY)
- Parental Leave (Local 1708 ONLY)
- Administrators’ Professional Advancement Leave (paid and unpaid)
- Military Leave
- Reserve or National Guard Leave
- Sabbatical Leave (Full-Time Faculty ONLY)
- Professional Leave of Absence (Full-Time Faculty ONLY)
- Maternity Leave (Full-Time Administrators & NBF ONLY)
- Paternal Leave (Full-Time Faculty ONLY)
- Special Leave of Absence (Local 1600 Full-Time Faculty & Professional and Local 1708 ONLY)
- Paid Jury Duty or Witness Leave
- Voting (Election Day) Leave
Note: Employees represented by a union are governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Non-Bargained For employees’ leave details are listed in the Board Policies and Procedures.
