Portfolio Assessment

The ENG 101 Portfolio
Each student of ENG 101 is required to submit a portfolio.  The portfolio is simply a presentation of coursework to show that the student has met course requirements and is ready to advance.  For this class, it is made up of the following components:  pre-semester expectation letter, an end of the semester reflective letter, and two REVISED essays. The revisions should show substantial improvements and reflect mastery of course SLOs (read as: it should not be hastily done the night before it is due). The eligible essays for inclusion will be provided by each instructor and be based on department portfolio requirements. The ability to provide the instructor and department with a quality portfolio is imperative as it counts for 30% of the overall grade and is an all or nothing exercise.

The ENG 96 Portfolio
At the end of the semester, students of ENG 96 are required to submit a Final Portfolio containing a selection of writing and other assignments from the semester for departmental evaluation. They are also required to take an in-class reading and writing exam called the Critical Reading Test (CRT). Together, the Final Portfolio and CRT make up 30% of the final grade and are required to successfully pass this course.
