The Malcolm X College Academic Support Center supports student success through peer, professional, and embedded tutoring. Services are offered through one-on-one sessions, small group study sessions, chapter reviews, and workshops.
Why Tutoring Matters?
The Malcolm X College Academic Support Center (ASC) provides support to all students seeking tutoring to gain a deeper comprehension of course content and enhance their overall educational experience. Tutoring can be utilized to help students set academic goals, plan ahead and become better prepared.
We believe all learning leads to positive personal growth, so in addition to course-related academic skills, our center assists students in building reading, writing, computer and study skills across all disciplines. Our philosophy of personalized one-on-one tutor/student experiences lead to greater student confidence, independence, and improved academic success. Research clearly shows students who engage with tutoring services demonstrate a significant increase in course completion and overall improved classroom achievement.
Tutoring Service
Tutoring services are available through the Academic Support Center (ASC) to all CCC students who seek assistance in achieving personal and academic success. Tutors are experts in various subjects including all general education subject areas (i.e. English, Math, CIS, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, etc.), as well as in support of several of the health sciences programs (availability varies by program/term). The ASC also offers tutoring support in placement test preparation, ATI-TEAS test preparation, as well as broad-based English reading and writing assistance.
Hours of Operation
- Monday - Thursday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm (last appointment at 7 pm)
- Friday & Saturday 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (last appointment at 1 pm)
- Sunday – Closed
- Drop-ins available for all subjects pending Tutors availability
- Tutor sessions can vary by tutor and discipline
Scheduling Tutoring Appointments – Navigate
To schedule a tutor appointment, students should:
- Log-in to my.ccc.edu using their CCC email address.
- Select Quick Access > Navigate > Appointments > Schedule an Appointment > Tutoring.
- Select Academic Course Based Tutoring > (Online MX Tutoring – Virtual Tutoring via Zoom to search for a tutor specifically qualified to tutor in a specific course in which they are currently enrolled.
- Other tutoring service options include TEAS Test Preparation (4 areas – English, Math & Bio & Chem), Placement Test Prep Read/Write & Placement Test Prep – Math, Study Skills Tutoring, Reading Services and Writing Services.
Please note:
- All MX Tutor Appointments are 30 min in length.
- A student may schedule up to 2 tutor appointments per service/per course/per day. Additional time may be authorized based on tutor availability and with dept approval.
- Tutor appointments may be scheduled no more than 14 days in advance.
- Based on tutor availability, appointments may be scheduled in real-time. Students should visit the MX ASC Dept ZOOM ROOM
- Students who arrive more than 15 min after their appointment may forfeit their appointment time.
- Appointments may be cancelled up to 1 hour in advance of their scheduled start time – using Navigate or by visiting the MX ASC Dept ZOOM ROOM.
- A student with a scheduled appointment who does not cancel their appointment will be marked as a No-Show cancellation.
- A student with more than 3 No-Show Cancellations will be subject to limitations in their ability to schedule tutor appointments using Navigate. In this case, the student must see the Coordinator or Director to clear their Tutor Appointment Counter enabling them to be allowed to schedule tutor appointments into the future.
