About Malcolm X College

Malcolm X College (MXC) is conveniently located near the Illinois Medical District and offers one of the largest selections of health sciences degrees in Cook County. MXC is situated near the birth place of the City Colleges of Chicago, Crane Junior College, which was established in 1911 at the corner of Jackson and Oakley. In January 2016, Malcolm X College opened a brand new $251 million state-of-the-art School of Health Sciences, featuring a virtual hospital. It also houses the new City Colleges of Chicago School of Nursing.

Program Offerings:

Malcolm X College is a major provider of training for health professionals in Chicago, offering associate degrees, shorter-term certificate programs, free adult education classes and special interest courses.

Associate Degrees

Malcolm X College offers associate degrees that prepares students to transfer to bachelor’s degree programs or to move directly into the workforce.

University Transfer Advantages

Malcolm X College has established transfer agreements with some of the top universities in the United States. These agreements allow students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Students who successfully complete the university transfer degree program (Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Applied Sciences) are eligible to transfer two full years of courses and credits to complete a four-year degree.

Career Certificate programs

Specialized courses are available for students who intend to enter immediate employment or upgrade their professional and technical skills. To date, MXC has exceeded its goal for the number of certificates awarded and has increased its efforts to guide students to appropriate educational pathways that lead to completion.

Adult Education

We offer free literacy, GED test preparation, and ESL (English as a Second Language) courses that help students master the English language.

Continuing Education

These programs are designed to provide students with lifelong learning opportunities.

Malcolm X College students have access to a host of resources to support them on their path to success, including: wellness center, transfer center, career center, veteran center, disability access center and more.

Student Profile

The majority of full-time students are recent high school graduates; however, many adults also attend classes. Our students ages range from 16 - 60 and beyond! Classes consist of roughly 25 students.
