Computer Lab Use Policy

Policies and procedures for the Olive-Harvey computer labs.
  1. No eating or drinking is allowed in the labs at any time.
  2. No use of tobacco is allowed in the labs at any time.
  3. Use of profanity, racial slurs, sexual innuendos or pornographic material will not be tolerated in the labs.
  4. Use of viruses, Trojans, worms, peer to peer, torrents or other malicious hacking/cracking software will not be tolerated in the labs.
  5. All students must show OHC ID card upon entering.
  6. Cell phone use is not permitted in the labs. Turn your cell phone off, or set the ringer to "vibrate", before entering the lab.
  7. There is no time limit for computer use. Equipment is first come, first served, and cannot be reserved. Please do not attempt to reserve a computer by leaving your belongings around it. If a station is left unattended for 15 minutes or more, OHC staff may log you out of the computer, move your belongings, and another user may have access to the computer. 
  8. Please do not leave your personal belongings unattended. OHC staff is not responsible for lost, stolen, or moved items. It is your responsibility to keep your own property safe and secure.
  9. Only OHC students, faculty and staff are allowed in the labs unless prior authorization is obtained through OHIT.
  10. No commercial or outside business work will be allowed to be done on campus without prior written authorization by OHIT management.
  11. Any student, faculty or staff that vandalizes, destroys, removes or threatens OHC equipment/assets will be reported to Campus Security to be removed from the premises.
  12. Any student, faculty or staff that threatens another student, faculty or staff member verbally or physically, will be reported to Campus Security.
  13. All articles and rules contained in the student handbook will be enforced.
  14. All articles and rules on the OHC website pertaining to OHIT policy will be enforced.
  15. Disregard of these rules will result in a verbal warning; second offense will result in termination of lab privileges pending further investigation.
  16. No information should be stored to the local machine.  All data will be lost once the machines are restarted. Computers are restarted on a daily basis.  All data must be stored to a flash drive or emailed to oneself.
  17. Use of the computer facilities should not hamper or interfere with the ability of other students to do academic work. Activities to be avoided include but are not limited to excessive computer volume, loud conversation or laughter, use of offensive language, viewing of offensive or explicit imagery, cell phone calls, and other disruptive behavior.
  18. You may not install software on lab computers, including but not limited to games, ICQ or instant messengers, media players, etc. If you need a specific piece of software for academic purposes, please talk to a staff to find out the appropriate procedure for having it installed.
  19. Please do not reconfigure computers, personalize desktops, or alter another user’s files. Please do not move computers or tamper with their cables. If you have a legitimate reason for wanting to alter a computer station, please ask a staff member to find out the appropriate procedure. 
  20. The Lab Manager is an employee of OHC with authority over the lab.  If there is a complaint please email it to ohclabreservations@ccc.edu
