College-Level Examination Program CLEP (Credit)

Students may earn college credits by successfully completing a CLEP Examination.

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives students the opportunity to receive credit for knowledge previously acquired by earning qualifying scores on any of 34 examinations. Students can earn credit for knowledge they have acquired through independent study, prior course work, on the job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships.

What Do CLEP Exams Cover?

CLEP offers 34 exams in five subject areas, covering material taught in courses that you may generally take in your first two years of college. Most CLEP exams are designed to correspond to one-semester courses, although some correspond to full-year or two-year courses.

Exams are approximately 90 – 120 minutes long, comprised primarily of multiple-choice questions.

https://clep.collegeboard.org/test-preparation

  • Visit one of the CCC Libraries to view an online database that provides access to CLEP preparation materials.

Cost

The CLEP test fee is comprised of the following components. All fees are non-refundable.

  • CLEP exam fee: $93.00, subject to change without notice. Students must create an account, register and pay online for exam(s), visit College Board at https://clep.collegeboard.org/exam.  Preferred forms of payment: credit card – Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or JCB; debit cards – cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo, gift card or per-paid credit card.  ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
    • After you purchase an exam(s), print a copy of the CLEP Registration Ticket and bring it with you to your appointment at a CCC Testing Center.
  • CCC administrative fee: $30.00. Note: this payment is in addition to and not to be combined with the CLEP exam fee(s). Pay the CCC administrative fee at the Business Office of the college where you plan to take the CLEP Exam. Acceptable forms of payment: CASH ONLY (at the Business Office payment window only). You must bring the CCC administrative fee receipt issued by the Business Office as proof of payment on the day of the exam. ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

Important Notes:

  • You may reschedule your exam by contacting the Testing Resources Center at least 24 hours (one business day) before your scheduled exam, or you will be charged an additional CCC administrative fee. Note: the third time you reschedule (and each time thereafter) you will be charged an additional CCC administrative fee. The CCC administrative fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.
  • CLEP testers must present a valid, government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport) to the Testing Center staff, both when they arrive to make their CLEP reservations and on the CLEP testing date.
  • CLEP testers names must be identical on their form of photo identification as well as on their CLEP registration tickets. When creating your CLEP account on the Collegeboard.org website, please take special care to enter your full, legal name exactly as it appears on your chosen method of photo ID. For example, hyphenated names on a test taker’s ID must also be hyphenated on their CLEP registration tickets, as well as students with two last names, suffixes, etc. Any discrepancy between a prospective CLEP test taker’s names on their photo ID’s and their CLEP registration tickets will prevent the student from being granted permission to test for CLEP.
