International Student Health Insurance
The Board of Trustees of the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) require that international students and dependents maintain health insurance during their course of study. Failure to obtain such insurance or willful violation of this insurance requirement will be considered a violation of status.
ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS UNDER AN F-1 VISA STATUS ARE REQUIRED DURING EVERY REGISTRATION PERIOD TO SUBMIT PROOF OF INSURANCE TO HIS/HER INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVISOR.
Authorized Proof of Insurance Document
- Copy of insurance policy with expiration date
Health Insurance Requirements
- Minimum of $250,000 of medical benefits per condition, per year
- Minimum of $100,000 in coverage for medical evacuation
- Minimum of $50,000 in coverage for repatriation benefits
- Annual deductible of no more than $500
- Pregnancy must be covered as any other condition
- Inpatient hospitalization
- Outpatient surgery
- Primary care services
- Specialty care services
- Pre-existing condition waiver offered if previous 6 month continuous coverage
- Prescription feature
- A United States insurance carrier with a minimum A.M. Best Rating of A-, VIII

Plans offered by other companies may better meet your insurance needs.
International students are required to have health insurance while studying at City Colleges of Chicago. Choices for student health care are listed alphabetically below. The Board of Trustees of Community College District No. 508 dba City Colleges of Chicago neither recommends, endorses, sponsors, partners, nor receives any form of compensation for the placement of this information on the CCC website.
Students are encouraged to examine each company’s benefits package before purchasing a medical insurance plan. Note: some health insurance companies may request a copy of a valid SEVIS I-20 and I-94 card.
