Residency Verification
Before you can register for classes at City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), you must verify your residency to determine your tuition and charges. The address on your verification document MUST MATCH the address you provided on your CCC admission application. If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Office at the college to which you applied.
Once you have applied and have been admitted to City Colleges, please verify your residency in one of the following ways:
1. Preferred Method: Submit Residency Verification through your student portal at my.ccc.edu:
Log in to my.ccc.edu and click on “Profile,” then select “Proof of Residency Documents,” upload approved documents listed below to your portal.
Your documents will be reviewed within 1-2 business days.
- Documents must be submitted in one of the following formats: GIF, JPEG, JPG, PDF, PNG.
- If you are submitting your official Chicago Public Schools transcript for verification, you must send an official transcript from your high school (see below).
OR
2. Email from your City Colleges student email address
You may email a copy of at least one (1) of the approved documents listed below to the Admissions Office at the college to which you applied. You must use your CCC student email account.
If you are emailing a valid voter registration card, copy of current lease or mortgage statement, current utility bill (60 days or less): water, electric, gas, home internet/cable, or home phone (mobile phone bills are not accepted), current orders or a letter from Command for military service persons, signed letter on letterhead from a homeless shelter confirming residency in the shelter or bank statement (dated within 90 days prior to verification) you must also email a copy of a valid ID (State ID/Drivers License, Chicago CityKey, US Military ID or Foreign Consular ID card).
Note: New students may not have immediate access to their City Colleges of Chicago student portal.
- Please send your document(s) as a GIF, JPEG, JPG, PDF, PNG.
- Please do not send password protected or encrypted document(s).
- Please provide us with access to view document(s) If you send document(s) via a file sharing service like Google Docs.
OR
3. Fax
You may fax a copy of at least one of the approved documents listed below to the Admissions Office at the college to which you applied.
If you are faxing a valid voter registration card, copy of current lease or mortgage statement, current utility bill (60 days or less): water, electric, gas, home internet/cable, or home phone (mobile phone bills are not accepted),current orders or a letter from Command for military service persons, signed letter on letterhead from a homeless shelter confirming residency in the shelter or bank statement (dated within 90 days prior to verification) you must also fax a copy of a valid ID (State ID/Drivers License, Chicago CityKey, US Military ID or Foreign Consular ID card)
- Please Note: You may be asked to provide a date of birth, email address, cell phone number, or CCC student ID number, if CCC needs additional information
OR
4. Submit Proof of Residency document in person at the Admission Office
You may present your Proof of Residency document to the Admissions Office at the college to which you applied.
List of Approved Proof of Residency documents:
Please provide at least one of the following approved documents to prove your residency:
- Valid driver’s license or State of ID or City of Chicago identification card (CityKey)
- Valid voter registration card
- Copy of current lease or mortgage statement
- Current utility bill (60 days or less): water, electric, gas, home internet/cable, or home phone (mobile phone bills are not accepted)
- Valid Foreign Consular ID card that includes a current address
- Current orders or a letter from Command for military service persons
- Signed letter on letterhead from a homeless shelter confirming residency in the shelter
- Bank statement (dated within 90 days prior to verification)
- Chicago Public Schools (CPS) transcript must meet each of the following four requirements:
- CPS transcript must be official:
- Mailed from CPS in sealed envelope, or
- Sent from CPS electronically via secure vendor, or
- Hand delivered from student or other designee in sealed envelope from CPS
- CPS transcript must show senior year semester either in progress, completed, or graduation date
- CPS transcript address must match CCC records from admission application
- CPS transcript can be used:
- While enrolled at CPS, or
- Up to nine (9) months after the graduation date from CPS, or
- If no graduation date is listed, up to nine (9) months from the ending date of the last semester indicated on the CPS official transcript
- CPS transcript must be official:
Early College Students:
Early College students may confirm residency by submitting:
- CPS transcript showing sophomore, junior, or senior year semesters in progress
- Valid CPS high school issued student ID card
Students with a non-Chicago Public Schools (CPS) high school ID card must also prove City of Chicago residency by submitting one or more residency verification documents.
Alternate Residency Certification

- If your name does not appear on documents such as the mortgage/lease or utility bill of your current residence, you must complete and submit a notarized Alternate Residency Certification to the Admissions Office at the college to which you applied using one of the methods above.
- This document must be notarized and accompanied by a mortgage statement, current lease, or home utility bill (water, electric, gas, home internet/cable, or home phone (land line only) dated within the last four months.
CPS Data Transfer
Applicants to City Colleges who are or will be recent Chicago Public Schools high school graduates can authorize the release of their home address for proof of residency verification from Chicago Public Schools. This is done by authorizing the release of their transcript information via the City Colleges admissions application or their student portal, my.ccc.edu. This data will be released to City Colleges of Chicago and will be used for the purpose of enrollment and proper course placement.
Updating your Address
Students are responsible for ensuring that their official address on file at the City Colleges of Chicago is current and correct. If you need to update your address, you must visit the Office of the Registrar at the campus to which you applied within thirty (30) days of an address change.
