Veterans ServicesThe Veterans Service Center assists active duty members, veterans, and family members in transitioning into higher education. We connect students to campus and community resources and support and advocate for our military-affiliated community.

Harry S Truman College provides targeted services that support U.S. military veterans, service members, and their families each year on their path to higher education and a career.

Scholarships

  • American Veterans (AMVETS): proudly supports the educational pursuits of Veterans, Active Duty personnel, members of the Guard and Reserves, as well as their spouses, children, and grandchildren through scholarships and grants. In partnership with WD-40, AMVETS also offers scholarships specifically designed for individuals seeking to enter or advance their careers in the construction skilled trades industries.
  • Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA): offers scholarships to members, their spouses, and unmarried dependents under 24 years old, as defined by the IRS, who rely on the member for primary support. Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $2,500 for full-time students and $1,000 for part-time students.
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW): The VFW’s ‘Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship’ offers financial support to service members and veterans aiming to achieve their educational goals with minimal debt. Additionally, the VFW provides the ‘Student Veteran Support Grant’ to fund veteran events at colleges nationwide, enhancing support for student veterans, especially those not affiliated with an SVA chapter. Moreover, the VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship allows student veterans to engage directly with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, advocating for veteran issues during the annual VFW Legislative Conference. 
  • Folds of Honor: The Folds of Honor Scholarships provide educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.
  • Pat Tillman Foundation: The Pat Tillman Scholarship supports active-duty service members, veterans, and their spouses with academic scholarships, a national network, and professional development opportunities.
  • Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)offers financial assistance to dependent children and spouses of U.S. Air Force members for their undergraduate studies.
  • Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS): provides financial assistance and support to members of the Navy and Marine Corps, their families, and survivors through loans, grants, and various educational programs.
  • Military Order of the Purple Heartoffers educational scholarships to Purple Heart recipients and their direct descendants, supporting their academic goals.
  • National Military Family Association (NMFA): provides educational funding to spouses of U.S. Armed Forces members to help them pursue higher education and career advancement.
  • Military Officers Association of America (MOAA): supports active duty, retired, and former military officers and their families with advocacy, professional development, and various member benefits.
  • Navy League Foundationoffer financial support to sea service members and their families, helping them pursue higher education and achieve academic success.
  • Veterans United Foundationprovides financial aid to military service members and their families to assist with educational expenses and achieve their academic goals.
  • Coast Guard Foundationsupport the education of Coast Guard members and their families by providing financial assistance for college and vocational training.
  • Army Emergency Relief (AER) offer financial assistance to Army families, supporting the educational goals of soldiers’ dependents and spouses.
  • Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA): provide financial support to students pursuing degrees in STEM fields, enhancing the education of military personnel, their dependents, and veterans.
  • Marine Corps Scholarships Foundation: offers financial support to children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen pursuing post-secondary education, focusing on those with financial need.
