How it Works
Thresholds’ Mobile Crisis Response Team respond to the mental health crisis, acting as an alternative to hospitalization or police response.
Upon receiving a call from a person experiencing a mental health crisis, Thresholds clinicians will work with callers to assess their situation via telephone and determine the appropriate response. This may include dispatching a Crisis Team to the caller’s location to assist. Crisis Teams are made up of two Thresholds staff, one of whom is a peer support specialist with lived experience of a mental health condition.

How it Works
This is a peer-led crisis respite center, an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. The Living Room at Thresholds is a comfortable, safe, and quiet place for those experiencing a mental health crisis. Staff at the Living Room help guests through a screening and assessment process in a natural, comfortable setting. They are ready with a number of trauma-informed supports and interventions to help meet the needs of each individual. This model has been successful in preventing unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations that can be distressing and exacerbate mental health symptoms.

988 Suicide & Crisis Hotline (available 24/7) call or text 988

How it Works

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) offers 24/7 call, text and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicidal, substance use, and/or mental health crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress. People can also dial 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.

When calling 988, callers first hear a greeting message while their call is routed to the local Lifeline network crisis center (based on the caller’s area code). A trained crisis counselor answers the phone, listens to the caller, understands how their problem is affecting them, provides support, and shares resources if needed. If the local crisis center is unable to take the call, the caller is automatically routed to a national backup crisis center. The Lifeline provides live crisis center phone services in English and Spanish and uses Language Line Solutions to provide translation services in over 250 additional languages for people who call 988.
