President's Statement

On behalf of our students, the faculty and staff of Harold Washington College, I am pleased to outline the College’s reaffirmation process in preparation for the Higher Learning Commission Comprehensive Evaluation visit to Harold Washington College on October 1-2, 2018. We began our work on reaffirmation in the summer of 2016, and since then have involved nearly 100 participants in reflecting, researching, consulting and writing in detail about the quality of higher education we offer at Harold Washington College.

In using the criteria outlined by the Higher Learning Commission, we have created and sustained a grassroots community process to review our challenges and accomplishments over the past decade. It has been a decade of challenging change, but we have grown and learned as we moved strategically to an even stronger future impact for our students and the City of Chicago.

We have listened carefully to many voices. This has inspired us to reaffirm our mission and rededicate it to the legacy of Harold Washington and his commitment to democracy and social justice.

You will be invited to take part in our reaffirmation process as we approach our October 2018 visit. This website will provide details of how to participate. We value public input to our work and hope you will contribute.

Help us honor and renew the legacy of Harold Washington through his namesake community c
