Harold Washington Academic Achievement Scholarship
Scholarship Information
The scholarship will cover tuition, lab fees, and registration fee for the Fall and Spring semester of the academic year for up to twelve (12) hours per term. All other fees (including activity fee and CDL fees) and/or charges will be the responsibility of the student, including any tuition for course work for which the student withdrew or was administratively withdrawn.
Requirements:
If not currently a CCC student:
- A current high school graduate with a GPA 3.00 or above on a 4.0 scale OR
- A GED test score of 2600 or above (260 or higher prior to January 2002)
- A copy of a high school transcript or GED test scores must be submitted with the application packet.
If current or former CCC student:
- A current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above (The current cumulative GPA must have been earned at one of the City Colleges of Chicago).
- Resident of the City of Chicago. (Chicago has to be the applicant’s true, fixed, and permanent place of residence and has been since 30 days prior to the beginning of Harold Washington’s academic year).
- United States citizen or a permanent resident of the United States. (Documentation includes U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization certification, or an Alien Registration card).
- Submission of the FAFSA (application for Financial Aid) for the academic year and have a completed financial aid file.
- Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at Harold Washington College.
- Meet placement testing requirements for college level courses
- Applicant should be working toward her/his first bachelor degree.
Application Procedure
- Complete the Harold Washington Academic Achievement Scholarship Application.
- The completed application packet must be returned to the Financial Aid Office (Room 202) prior to:
- July 31 for Fall semester
- November 15 for Spring semester
- Any incomplete scholarship applications will not be considered.
- A complete application packet includes:
- Application
- High Transcript or GED Test Scores
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status
- Essay
- Letter of Recommendation
Students who qualify for other grants and/or scholarships that are specific to tuition and fees are required to be utilized prior to the Harold Washington Academic Achievement Scholarship. The Harold Washington Academic Achievement Scholarship is not transferable to any other college; this includes other City Colleges of Chicago. Please note, Harold Washington College reserves the right to cancel the scholarship if funding is not available.
