OUR MISSION:
We serve our college community by advancing excellence in higher education and engaging in exploration, inquiry, analysis and critical evaluation of the individual and collective modes of creative expression as revealed through the arts.
OUR SERVICE:
Whether you are pursuing an arts-related concentration, certificate or associate degree, meeting your general education requirements, taking classes in preparation for transfer, expanding your career opportunities, or simply strengthening your love of the arts, our caring and talented faculty can help you flourish. Each semester, we provide over 50 first and second year courses in: African-American Studies, Art & Architecture History, Cinema Studies, Diversity & Ethnic Studies, Cultural & Media Studies, Latin American/Latino Studies, Literature (Poetry, Fiction, Drama), Music Business, Music Education, Jazz Studies, Music History, Music Technology, Music Theory, Opera, Music Performance (Drums, Guitar, Piano, Voice, Saxophone, and others), Dance Performance (Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip-Hop and World), Philosophy, Sustainability Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies.
With our unique location in Chicago’s loop, many of our classes go beyond campus to experience the arts firsthand at the Architecture Center, Art Institute, Cultural Center, Joffrey Ballet, Lyric Opera and many more exciting locations!
We offer many engaging options for focusing your Associate’s degree in a specific area of study with our Concentrations and Certificates in Fine Arts, Cinema & Media Studies, Music Business, Music Technology, Philosophy, Women’s Studies and Latin American/Latino Studies.
We also assure that HWC continues to actively engage in the arts culture of Chicago by hosting ongoing and annual special events like Humanifest ’Oh!, our Music Festival with performances at the Cultural Center, guest speakers, panels, student dance, music and literary performances, and special seminars throughout each semester.
