Welcome to Japanese Studies!

Today, Japan is home to 127 million people. In finance and global politics Japan is a strong economic engine in the electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries while playing a major role in international environmental policy. The origins of Japan can be traced back to 30,000 BCE. Architecture and the arts reflect Japan’s cultural heritage in its gardens, pagodas, temples and shrines as well as Kabuki Theater, ceramics, swords, and martial arts.

Japanese is more than a language. It is a gateway to a rich ancient culture and a future career. Whether marketing and finance, technology, theater or anime are your passion, the world of Japan opens with your study of Japanese.

Courses

JAPANESE 101 First Course Japanese – Pronunciation and basic structures, speech patterns, reading, and writing skills. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisites: None. Credit Hours: 4

JAPANESE 102 Second Course Japanese – Continuation of Japanese 101. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisites: Japanese 101, or Consent of Department Chairperson. Credit Hours: 4

JAPANESE 103 Third Course Japanese – Review and development of basic language skills, conducted in Japanese. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisites: Japanese 102, or Consent of Department Chairperson. Credit Hours: 4

JAPANESE 104 Fourth Course Japanese – Review of language structure and interpretation of readings, conducted in Japanese. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course. Prerequisites: Japanese 103, or Consent of Department Chairperson. Credit Hours: 4
