Assessment Committee By-laws
The Assessment Committee By-laws were revised and approved Spring 2023.
- Changes to bylaws are determined by
majority vote - Reaffirmed every academic year
- Committee Membership
- Committee membership should include
representatives of academic and co-curricular departments - Members are responsible for
managing project proposals, projects, and conducting outreach/recruiting
within their departments - Membership is entirely voluntary
- SA for committee membership work
obligates 2 semesters (i.e., one academic year) - For determination of specific
roles, members can nominate someone, including themselves - Majority vote by committee
determines specific roles - Specific roles:
- Chair:
- Schedules committee meetings
- Develops meeting agendas
- Leads the outreach efforts
- Leads subcommittee formation
(e.g., assigning committee members to review and support specific
projects) - Leads assessment website updates
- Newsletter: organize list of
reports in part 2 of newsletter - Edit
report abstracts - Write
preface - Vice-chair:
- Leads committee meetings when
chair is absent - Secretary:
- take notes during meetings
- Project Proposals Management
- The committee will use FDW time to
host assessment workshop/activity to facilitate and encourage development
of prospective project proposals - Showcase projects that have been
running - E.g., poster presentations instead
of an oral presentation using PPT - Put outside the theater prior to
FDW start - Have time carved out during FDW
in which people are encouraged to look at the posters - The committee will call for
reporting template part 1 submissions (project proposals) and manage the
evaluation and refinement of project proposals - The committee will call for project
proposals near end of one semester and start of the following
semester - The committee members will divide
the work of reviewing part 1 (project proposals) - Committee members will meet with
their assigned volunteers on an as needed basis to provide feedback on
proposals to facilitate finalization and project implementation. - Once proposals are approved by the
committee, SAs (special assignments) will be assigned - Approved project proposals will
then be uploaded to the assessment website
- Projects Management
- The committee will manage the
evaluation and refinement of reporting template part 2 (data analysis,
conclusions, and next steps) submissions - After part 2 is completed and
submitted to the committee, committee members will review those of their
assigned volunteers and provide feedback and meet on an as needed
basis - This can occur at any point in
time, as when this will happen may vary based on the nature of a given
project - Once finalized, the updated
reporting templates (containing both parts 1 and 2) will be uploaded to
the assessment website
- Annual Report (Newsletter)
- The committee will produce a
report/newsletter near the beginning of each fall term - The newsletter will contain:
- Cover: some kind of intriguing
image - Table of contents
- Preface:
- How many projects ran that year,
and what stage they are in - What academic areas were assessed
and who the volunteers were - Section 1: Assessment Projects
- A list of projects organized by department,
which include volunteers, ILOs, and project stage (i.e., 1 or 2). - Abstracts:
- A brief summary (a few
sentences) of each volunteer’s project - A hyperlink to the project’s
full report (found on SharePoint) - Section 2: about assessment of
student learning and the assessment committee - Description of assessment
- Graphic of assessment cycle
- A description of the mission of
the assessment committee - Bylaws of the assessment
committee - A list of current members,
departments, emails - Statement: “Please feel free
to reach out to any committee member if you would like to learn more
and/or if you are interested in developing an assessment project.”
