The Student Government Association represents all students and serves as a liaison between the student body and college administration and the Board of Trustees.

The Student Government Association (SGA):                      

  • provides a forum for the open exchange of views and ideas on matters of importance to students
  • defends students’ rights, advocates on behalf of students, and helps to formulate academic and institutional policies that affect students
  • governs student clubs, groups and organizations and provides funding via its SGA annual budget allocation from the City Colleges of Chicago
  • plans and sponsors social and cultural events throughout the academic year

Governance                                  

The SGA is governed by the Guidelines for the Organization and Operation of Student Government Associations​,​ Academic & Student Policy, and the Board Policies and Procedures for Management and Government.​                                  

SGA Officers                                  

SGA officers are students elected as representatives by the student body. Officers are advised by their appointed advisor and the Associate Dean of Student Services (or designee). SGA officers must maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75. Elections for SGA officers and senators occur annually during the spring semester. The SGA offers a great opportunity for students to develop or enhance their leadership skills.

  • Each Senator’s term will be for one academic year (May 31 – May 30), or part thereof if appointed to fill a vacancy.
  • Senators must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 at time of election and maintain the 2.5 for each semester while in office.
  • Represent and communicate with their constituents.
  • All senators must be enrolled in at least three (3) college credit hours at Wright College during the fall and spring semester at CCC for their term in the office.
  • Create and participate on at least one (1) senate subcommittee to tackle specific issues at the respective campus, convening a minimum of once a month.
  • Senators are required to devote a minimum of four (4) hours each week to the SGA not including time utilized in attending general or special senate meetings. General meetings are on Wednesday’s at 3:00pm during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Senators must have a working knowledge of the SGA Guidelines, Constitution, and By-Laws.
  • Meet regularly with the advisors, if appropriate.
  • Approve expenditure requests from the Financial Committee, if applicable. 
  • Other duties as specified in the SGA by-laws of their respective College.
