High School Equivalency (HSE) Scholarship Information

​City Colleges offers eligible students scholarships to help cover the cost of  GED® and HiSET® exams.

The GED® exam consists of four tests: 
  • Reasoning (Reading/Writing) – 150 minutes       
  • Math – 115 minutes
  • Science – 90 minutes
  • Social Studies -70 minutes
With a City Colleges of Chicago scholarship there is no cost (FREE) ($30 without scholarship).​
 
The HiSET® exam consists of five tests:          
  • Language Arts – Reading – 65 minutes
  • Language Arts – Writing – 120 minutes
  • Math – 90 minutes
  • Science – 80 minutes
  • Social Studies – 70 minutes
​With a City Colleges of Chicago scholarship the cost is $8 per test ($18 without scholarship). ​
Note: GED® and HiSET®​tests may not be combined to earn your High School Equivalency certificate.

Take a High School Equivalency (HSE) Practice Test

In order to qualify for an HSE (GED®/HiSET®) test scholarship you need to score "Likely to Pass" on the GED Ready® practice test or "Well Prepared" on the HiSET® practice test. 
        
GED Ready® practice tests cost $6 and can be accessed through  MyGED®​ (Study > Take GED Ready). A limited number of practice test payment waivers are available; ask your instructor for more details.

To register and schedule your GED® or HiSET® tests you will need to need to create an on-line account.  View your test scores through this account after taking a test!

Create an account on the HiSET®​  portal if you plan to take the HiSET® test.
